Professional Denture Services

How often do you need to replace dentures?

If you are finding that your dentures are slipping around or causing you discomfort, it may be time to have them relined or replaced. For expert denture services at highly competitive prices, speak to The Denture Lady in Ipswich.

Generally, the recommended life of a denture is 8-10 years. Keeping your dentures for longer than this may cause your facial dimensions to shrink and your bite may no longer be in the correct alignment. For more information, please contact our friendly team.

denture care

Denture care

Dentures should be brushed over a towel or a sink half-filled with water. Lightly brush the dentures with a soft nylon toothbrush or denture brush. Place dentures in a cleanser overnight or for at least 30 minutes daily to remove stains and prevent infections and odours. After the dentures have been soaked remove all the cleanser and lightly brush the dentures under cold running water.

Denture relining

Relining is a process where the fitting surface of a denture is renewed. A reline may re-establish suction, comfort, stability and discourage food from going under the denture. Since your mouth and the dental ridges change or shrink over time, periodic relining is necessary to ensure a comfortable fit. Relining your dentures will:
  • Help your dental ridges stay healthy
  • Increase the life of the denture
  • Help maintain chewing efficiency

Mouth guards

Mouth guards are made from heavy duty, flexible, hard-wearing vinyl. Custom made mouth guards may reduce the chances of tooth damage or painful injuries to the lips and mouth. Mouth guards also help to absorb force and help to prevent a damaged jaw or concussion. Custom made mouth guards should not make breathing difficult. During a child's developing years, mouth guards need to be renewed at least annually.

Mouth guard care

Mouth guards are best kept clean by rinsing under cold water after use. They should be stored in a vented plastic container away from heat and sunlight. Mouth guards are subject to rebates for entitled patients under their Private Health Fund.
